Teen clockmaker Ahmed Mohamed visits Google Science Fair and Withdraws from School district

The 14-year-old Irving, Texas, teen stopped by the tech company’s California campus one week after being detained for a DIY clock mistaken for a bomb.

Ahmed joined nearly two dozen finalists at Google’s invite — a tech tour that will take him to the United Nations and White House.

“Curious young scientists, inventors and builders like (Ahmed) should be encouraged and empowered,” Mariette DiChristina, Scientific American’s Editor-in-Chief, wrote in a statement late Monday for the science fair.

The visit comes as Ahmed’s father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, on Monday withdrew his three children from Irvthe Dallas Morning News.
