Land Rover unveils Smartphone-controlled Range Rover Sport

Land Rover is showcasing some of the next-generation autonomous driving technology that it is planning to bring to future models.

As long as the owner is within 3 meters of his or her Range Rover Sport, the car can be remotely maneuvered around the tightest of carparks or over the most challenging of off-road terrains at low speeds.

The supporting smartphone app gives the owner full remote control of the steering, accelerator and brakes and, because he or she is standing outside, complete, all-round visibility of obstacles -- be they ditches, rocks or a poorly-parked car.

Also detailed in the video is a system for autonomously turning a Range Rover through 180 degrees so that it points in the opposite direction while avoiding obstacles and other road users.
