A woman has been found at a park pushing her dead three-year-old son in a swing, police have said.

The 24-year-old, who has not yet been identified, was reportedly spotted pushing her deceased toddler on the piece of equipment at Wills Memorial Park in La Plata, Maryland, on Friday morning.

Officers responded to a call around 7 a.m. to check on a woman who witnesses said had been pushing a child for hours on a swing at Wills Memorial Park in La Plata, Washington, D.C., said Charles County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson. When the officers arrived they found the 24-year-old woman still pushing the child in the swing.

Police believe she may have been at the playground with her son all night. The child did not have any signs of trauma on his body. officials said. He has been taken to a medical examiner for an autopsy

One witness told deputies she found it strange that the woman had been pushing the child for an unusually long period of time, possibly since the day before, Richardson said.

The mother, who was not identified, was transported to a nearby hospital for medical tests, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
