Instagram is Switching Up Your Timeline from Chronological to “Relevant Posts” First

These changes, according to a blog post published by the Instagram team, include an algorithm based reorder of users’ feeds on their timeline.

The post reads “You may be surprised to learn that people miss on average 70 percent of their feeds. As Instagram has grown, it’s become harder to keep up with all the photos and videos people share. This means you often don’t see the posts you might care about the most.”

As a result, Instagram hopes to reorder the feeds of users so that photos and videos in each feed are arranged based on different reasons including, the likelihood that a user is interested in them, a user’s relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post.

So, posts by people a user communicates with the most will now appear before the recently added posts on one’s Instagram timeline.

The post added, “If your favourite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in. And when your best friend posts a photo of her new puppy, you won’t miss it.”
