Jason Ferguson, a 33-year-old man from Port Orange was helping his in-laws by installing their new dishwasher on Thursday night when he died of electrocution by his wedding ring. His good deed in this instance was his last.
New York Daily news reported on this man's deadly home improvement mishap on Nov. 10. The man had finished the installation, and he was testing the new appliance before he sat down to dinner with his family around 7 p.m. that night. However, the new appliance made a strange noise, and he decided to investigate.
This was a fatal mistake. Before he made the initial installation, the man had turned off the electricity in the room. There was no danger of electrocution during that time. However, the man turned the power back on when he was done with the installation. When he decided to investigate the strange noise coming from the machine, he did not shut off the power once again.
The man's family noticed something was wrong immediately when they saw him leaning against the appliance. Officials with the South Daytona Police Department said:
"It was noticed that Mr. Ferguson was on his knees leaning against the dishwasher with his left arm extended behind the dishwasher and was not moving nor had he moved in a few minutes."At that time, the family pulled the man by his clothes away from the dishwasher, and they began to perform CPR. He had turned red because of the power jolting through his body.
Paramedics arrived on scene, and they rushed Ferguson to Halifax Medical Center. Lt. Daniel where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy on the man confirmed he died of electrocution and blamed on wedding ring.
