Are YOU cleaning your teeth all wrong?, Experts give their 6 step guide to getting the perfect pearly whites

Denplan has created an infographic showing the best technique for toothbrushing, as many of us are unwittingly doing this wrong. It involves angling the bristles at 45° towards the gum (top right, step 1) and brushing both sides of the teeth with small circular movements. The biting surface of the teeth (bottom left, step 4), the inside surfaces and the tongue (bottom right, step 6) should also be cleaned

Failing to do proper teeth cleaning can lead to a build up of plaque - which causes tooth decay and can lead to gum disease. And gum disease - known as gingivitis to dentists - has been linked with other health issues including including heart problems, kidney disease, diabetes and even certain types of cancer.

HOW TO BRUSH TEETH PROPERLY
Step 1
Place the head of your toothbrush against your teeth, then tilt the bristle tips to a 45 degree angle against the gum line.
Move the brush in small circular movements, several times, on all the surfaces of every tooth.

Step 2
Brush the outer surfaces of each tooth, upper and lower, keeping the bristles angled against the gum line.

Step 3
Use the same method on the inside surfaces of all your teeth.

Step 4
Brush the biting surfaces of the teeth.

Step 5
To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several small circular strokes with the front part of the brush.

Step 6
Brushing your tongue will help freshen your breath and clean your mouth by removing bacteria.
If you struggle with your brushing technique, ask your dental team to help you find an effective style that works for you.
