The Federal Government has requested for a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council. The request came from the Minister of State Khadijah Bukar Abba Ibrahim while delivering the federal government’s message to stakeholders during the UN at 70 anniversary in Abuja.
Former minister of Foreign Affairs, and UN Under Secretary-General, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari also supported the request saying it was in consideration of Nigeria’s contribution to about 40 UN peace missions.
On security challenges experienced across Africa, Bujar said they would be better tackled via a collective effort, adding that attacks of the Boko Haram sect had been significantly reduced. The UN on its part congratulated Nigeria on successes recorded in eliminating Ebola and Polio, and called for greater attention to rebuilding the UN House.
