Google’s buy-button combined with its Android Pay feature could drive shopping both on mobile and desktop by reducing the number of hoops that people have to jump through in order to buy something online.
It works as follows: When a shopper conducts a Google search on a mobile device, some search results may include ads featuring the text, “Buy on Google“. This search option will also respond to the voice queries.
Alferness said the company was testing this feature with “a dozen or so” retail partners over the next few weeks, before rolling it out to advertisers in the US.
“This isn’t about cornering the market on measurement”, Google says, but about helping consumers “understand their purchases” better.
When Google changed its formula for showing search results in April to favor websites it deems mobile-friendly, some businesses anxious their sites would disappear from results.
