Vice-president of the United States, Joe Biden, recently had a phone call with President Goodluck Jonathan and APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari respectively.
According to Punch, the US embassy, verified that the phone call occurred, via a statement issued by the US embassy in Nigeria.
Here is an excerpt from the statement:
“The Vice President further expressed the United States’ support for the Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission and its work to deliver free, fair, and credible elections, in part through its essential efforts to distribute Permanent Voter Cards and help ensure that electronic voter card readers are in place and fully operational.”
Biden is also said to have commended Jonathan and Buhari for signing the Abuja Peace Accord, describing it as an expression of commitment to ensure non-violent elections.
He also assured Nigeria of the US’ support during the election process.
