The star announced news of his engagement to longtime girlfriend Hannah Blackwell on his Facebook page on Friday.
Phillips, who took home the title for the eleventh season of "American Idol," opened up back in 2012 about his romantic first kiss with Blackwell.
"We had just got through with a date,” he said in an interview with radio station 104.3 MYfm. “I had a lot of fun and everything. I gave her a hug, and I said, ‘Would you mind if I kissed you?’ She said yes, so I freakin’ kissed her, and that’s what happened. It was very magical.”
"My best Christmas surprise is happening. We're engaged yall! @HannahBlackwell," the 24-year-old captioned a pic of the future spouses.
"I've been dreaming of this for over 20 years," she gushed. "I've been dreaming of this guy for just that long. Overwhelmed with happiness. @phillphill."
