The Nigerian Elections Debate Group (NEDG) announced earlier this week that the two 2015 presidential debates would be held on January 28th and February 5th. while the vice presidential debate will be held on January 29th. The time slots for these events have not been announced.
NEDG Trustee Chairman, Sola Omole announced that Chief Raymond Dokpesi, the Chair of Daar Communication Plc, would moderate the three debates.
Presidential debates are a relatively new addition to Nigeria’s political landscape with PDP candidate and incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan apprehensive about participating in the 2011 presidential debates, according to the Washington Post. Prior to the 2011 debates, the last debate was held in 1993. NEDG has come under fire by observers who claim it is being organized by pro-Jonathan advocates.
