Pakistan announces Teachers will Hold Guns to School following Taliban attack that left 134 children dead

Officials in Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakthunkhwa province have announced that teachers will now be allowed to carry guns to school following an attack where more than 150 people were killed on a military-run school in the city on December 16, Pakistan's bloodiest massacre in years.. This is to enable teachers engage with terrorists should such occasion arises again.

According to the officials the move would allow teachers to fight off terrorists 'for [an] initial five to 10 minutes' before back-up arrives.

But critics are warning the move to arm teachers could put children at even greater risk, as well as affect teachers' performance at work.
Dr Shahid Iqbal, head of the Department of Psychology at Urdu University Karachi, told World Bulletin he thought it was one of the 'most stupid' school security ideas he had ever seen.
