This woman has become housebound after forced to live as a 'modern-day leper' as the result of a devastating skin condition which is turning her into BARK. Pat Schuerman suffers from severe psoriasis which leaves her body covered in thick red welts and rough, silvery scales, which she says resembles tree bark or plaster of Paris. Pat, who lives alone in Arizona, said: "I was asked to leave our local library because people complained I was getting flakes on the keyboard. They thought I might be contagious and wouldn’t let me back without a letter from a doctor"
Now 50 year old, the woman said her skin started changing at age 24. She added: "My doctor told me there was no cure but that most people are only affected in small areas so it would be manageable with creams and medication.
"I was only young and I took pride in my appearance, but most days I looked like I’d stepped out of a snow storm."
Over time, the small patches have become larger, and now the condition has spread so much, Pat fears it’s only a matter of time before it consumes her face.
