Ask.com, which enables anyone to ask and answer a question online, analyzed search data and question volume from more than 100million monthly U.S. users to find the top trending search terms associated with celebrities, news and politics.
Among the biggest celebrity searches of the year were those tied to the untimely and tragic deaths of entertainers Robin Williams and Joan Rivers; as well as leaked nude photos of Hollywood’s leading ladies.
Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton were in the also in the top ten searches for celebrities, alongside Derek Jeter who broke into the top ten with the question 'When is Derek Jeter’s last game?'
The top news search of the year was around the Ebola virus outbreak, with the question 'What are the symptoms of Ebola?' seeing a spike in volume as the virus landed in the U.S.
