Eight women have died after
undergoing tubectomy operations ( a surgical procedure done on women as a permanent method of contraception) at a health camp organised by the government in
the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
While 30 other women were admitted to hospital in critical condition.
The tubectomy operations were carried out on Saturday on 83 women in Pendari village in Bilaspur district within 6 hours by one doctor with his assistant according to BBC news.
Officials have denied negligence, but villagers allege the surgeries were done hurriedly and poorly.
The state government has ordered an inquiry into the incident surgery incident.
